Pen-Aw-Tha…..what a place!

February 24th, 2008 by JudyLynn

Should you wonder about the picture at the top of my web page I will tell you. I am writing a song there at that particular time named “Take It or Leave It” and as I am writing my sister shows up. She had been out on a day trip and now I do not recall wether she was out goldpanning or at Coos Canyon visiting my other sister. She stopped in anyway. She snapped this picture of me.

Pen-Aw-Tha is a place  at Countryfolk Music Theater in East Dixfield,Maine where song writers can go and stay for three days to get away from the madness of the world and write. It does not need to be a song. You can work on a story if you desire. Whatever you want to compose is fine with Larry Bisbee.  It is a building in the making but it is useable if you like roughing it. It is indeed country! Right down to the “OUT HOUSE!”

I have been to the Pen-Aw-Tha about 5 times and have always come home with a new song. I have not recorded all of them yet. Some are still a work in progess. I have dreams that are as old as I am but I am not letting go of them yet.

I would love to hear form you. Tell me your dreams of music or whatever you want. I feel like an island so far on here for I have had no comments. What you you like to know?

Don’t give up on visiting my site. It is still in the making stages . It will be a pretty good one I think. Thank you.

Singing Solo in East Dixfield, Maine

February 19th, 2008 by JudyLynn

This past year of 2007 I started singing in a little village known as East Dixfield, Maine. Serenity has sung there since 2003 but this was my first solo time. I was very nervous about this but eveyone made me feel very welcomed. Larry”Buck” Bisbee is director of this place and also has a writers cabin know as “Pen-Aw-Tha .” I was fortunate enough to have used this cabin and I was blessed with four new songs.

Singing has always been my therepy. Larry Bisbee encouraged me to record my songs and so I have. I have one cd with 11 songs on it. I have enough for 3 more cd’s yet to do. I am excited. Where will this take me at this time in my life? I assure you that I do not know. It is not the songs that will take me anywhere anyway. It is My Lord God who prepared my way before me.

Now you know me a little bit more than you did and perhaps as I do this I will think of more to submit. This is all for now.

Nothing Stays the Same

February 17th, 2008 by JudyLynn

Well today is a brand new day and so I will add more to this. It appears that life never stays the same. Times change, things change and we change. However things change, unless we die, we keep on living. True? I think it is. Seeings I am still alive and kicking I will continue on with my story.

I tried to get a song recorded but was ripped off instead. I do not know what actually happened for we lost all contact. All I know is that it was an expensive lesson for me that I never tried again.

Years later I re-married and was so very busy that for 5 years I hardly picked my guitar up. I wrote nothing. We traveled across the U.S. many times for 3 years. My small son, husband and I. We met a family in one of the states that lived in the country and played and sang. It was always a lot of fun to visit them. I fit right in. They played and sang country. He was learning the guitar when we first met and the song he sang to his pretty wife was “Just a swinging….” something about being on the back porch eating choclate cake …somthing like that. I have not seen them for over 10 years now. Time passes by !

A year after my 2nd divorce I was diagnosed with breast cancer. This was a turning point in my life. I wrote many songs. Some songs were about lost love and stuff like that. Suddenly it seemed , my songs changed from eathly love to Heavenly Love. I learned nothing about the cancer but a lot about the Grace of God and the Love of Jesus!!!

During my healing time I began singing with some friends. We sang at nursing homes and churches and such. Then things changed. Nothing ever stays the same. Two of us started singing with another woman. We were to be known as Serenity. Later on we were dubbed in Britt, Iowa at the National Hobo Convertion, as the National Hobo Gospel Singers. We still are and will be untill the Lord leads us elsewhere.

Back to My Interest in Singing and Playing Guitar

February 15th, 2008 by JudyLynn

I learned how to chord “Last Date” or maybe the name is “Last Kiss.” I am not sure today. It starts out in lyrics like this….”We were out on a date in my daddy’s car. we hadn’t driven very far far, there in the road right strait ahead, a car was stalled ..the engine we dead, well I couldn’t stop so I swerved to the right, I lost my love, my life that night. Ohhh where oh where can my baby be, the Lord took her away from me…she’s gone to heaven so I’ve got to be good , so I can see my baby when I leave this world.”

Due to circumstance I had no control over, time passed. My sister sold her guitar and I gave up learning. Two years later my boy-friend gave me his little old guitar to learn on. He had given up on learning. I started learning again. Years later he bought me a real nice guitar. I believe it was a Yamaha and it was nice. Did I mention he was also by this time, my husband. We were married 12 + years. I learned how to strum that guitar and would bellow out songs by Hellen Ready, Cher, and others and even wrote some of my own songs. I had and still have my own style of song and playing. I never played other than at home or family gatherings.

I am Ready for Spring

February 15th, 2008 by JudyLynn

I was awakened this morning by the sound of a bucket loader moving snow banks making ready for more snow. I have lived here 8 years this April and this is the first time the town has had to go to this extent. This is a winter like years ago! Anyway, I get up and go out into my kitchen. I turn the water on thinking I want to make coffee. HHHMMMM….something is not right. I turned the water off yet I am still seeing dripping. Now remember, I am not very alert. I do realize however that the water dripping is not coming from the fauscet. I look up!!!You got it! Right around my ceiling light is the drip. I open my cupboard doors and feel. Water where there should be none. Now I ask you….is this the way to begin a new day? I know my roof need to be re-shingled but I was hoping that not any damage would be done to my home. Still I hope that. Along with shingles I need windows, insulation, trim work and I can not think of what all this ol’  house  needs.  Makes me think of that old song ‘This Old House.’ Did I mention that my home needs work also? Hee Hee

This has put me in a mood for the morning and I just might write a song about “showers in the house!” ……”Ohh Yodel Yodel…the only time we un takes a showah is when it rains outside and ouah roof leaks…….La la la .” What do you think of that?
