Fall is in the Air and Change is upon us

September 25th, 2009 by JudyLynn

Howdy all,

As you might notice if you have been here before, the site is going thru some changes. I am thinking it is now more colorful outdoors rather than here in my blog. Progress it is called. Time will tell me if it is worth it. I certainly hope so.

Tell me now, what are your favorite fall activities? One of mine is hiking. I am planning on climbing a nearby mountain. I don’t know if I will make it to the top but a friend and I are planning on climbing as far as we can. I have not climbed for years due to issues with getting older…hee hee….Kidding about that even tho I am getting older. Only in numbers.  I do have problems that keep me from being as active as I would like to be but I still have dreams. I will not give up dreaming. Keeps me young.

I also enjoy scenic drives. Oh the leaves are so beautiful in the fall. So many differant colors. I hope to go into the white mountains  of  New Hampshire this year.  It is a very pleasant drive.

Another thing that I like is the smell of the wood stoves in the crisp cool air. I feel so alive then. I do not have a wood stove but I know people who do have.

The humming birds have left me now. waw! I enjoyed watching them this summer. What summer we had that is. It seems like it came and went in the same week . sigh…. Anyway, the little birds have left for their winter homes. (I wonder where they go…)

Many flocks of geese have gone over honking as they go by. They are an interesting bird.

Well, it seems to be time to go get some groceries. Got to eat ya know.

I hope you like the new set up for this blog.

Pig Roast

September 21st, 2009 by JudyLynn

Have you ever been to a pig roast? I have not until now. It is for next week-end. I am excited about it. Time to hang out with relatives and old friends, beer and karoke…and of course, the guest of honor—-the Pig!

Because of other interests and areas of dwelling this will be my first time in about 20 years (more than that really) that I will be around many of the folks that will be there.(Including my ex and his wife.) Sound like an odd situation? Well it just might be. I sence a new song coming on. Hee Hee. Like I told my ex brother-in-law, “You know what? I would love to be there. It does not bother me that they are going to be there. We all must grow up. Life it to darn short to let changes change us.” Something like that anyway. He agreed.

I hope also that there will be songs on the Karoke that I know. Sounds like lots of fun to me!!

Staying sober,

JudyLynn

Robin Wright

September 19th, 2009 by JudyLynn

Howdy All,

Well today I am thinking of a lady I saw a couple of years ago at the CountryFolkMusicTheater in East Dixfield, Maine. She is a lovely lady who does Tammy Wynett tributes. I must say, I was in awe. I had to keep reminding myself that this was not Tammy singing. She sang many of Tammys greastest hits. Like “Stand By Your Man”, “I Don’t Want to Play House” and many more. The house band did a good job playing for her. There was not much time for any practise and when they did start off in the wrong key or whatever, she would just smile and make a cute joke and they would start over. It was a class one act.

After the day was thru she and her husband stayed at Larry Bisbee’s, (the propriater of the Countryfolk MusicTheater,) for awhile and I stayed as well. Larry invited me for he knew I was a “Tammy” fan.  Robin Wright and I had a lot of fun singing together. I only wish I had been able to get out of my “jitters” singing with her for I think I might have done better. Nonetheles, it was fun.

She is a very real down to earth person who tried for years to make it big as a country singer. The problem was that she looks and sounds so much like Tammy that she could not make it as herself. “We already have one Tammy…we do not need two” was the responce she got when she tried to get recorded.

After the death of Tammy Wynett and as sad as it may seem, Robin Wright got her break. She does not try to “outdo”Tammy, but does tributes to Tammy Wynett. If you get the chance to hear Robin  and see her perform, oh you should.  I hope she comes to my area again sometime. I would love to spend more time with her.

Let me know if you have ever heard her.

Peter, Paul and Mary

September 18th, 2009 by JudyLynn

I found out today that Mary died of cancer.  Sad news.  I remember when I was 13 my folks got us a record player and some records. The record with Polly Von and Freight Train and other great hits were one one of the records that we got also. I still have that worn out record. Being 56 years of age I fear I am entering in the stage of my life where I will wittness many deaths of great people. Of course I realize that EVERYONE can say that. It is a fact of life.

I am not writing much tonight for I am very worn. I worked in my yard all day and I am to tired to type.

If anyone has an interesting story to share with me about Mary and the others, please write.

Later Daze,

JudyLynn

My Thoughts of the Day

September 12th, 2009 by JudyLynn

I was just singing the song that my aunt and I wrote about my Grampa…her father.  She wrote the lyrics long ago about her Dad and many years later I was given permission to put melody to it and change a few words to make it my own story about grampa. As I was just singing it I got to thinking about the railroad.

My Grampa kept tracks clear and lights working so everyone in the Newport, Maine area stayed safe. Who were the people that road these rails I wonder? I am thinking that many of my aunts and uncles and cousins were on the trains. Perhaps even my Mom and Dad.  I recall it being an old stream engine  with coal smoke burping from out the stack, with the most interesting whistle that made my sister run to Mom in fright. It never scared me! (smile)

I am thinking that many Hobos were on it as well. Did you know that Hobos helped lay the lines? Well they did. Along with building bridges and highways. The American Hobo of old helped build America. Don’t doubt it now. It is true.

Yes, there were other men that lived in the area hired to do the work that was being done. Many such things were being built but think about it for a moment.  Hobos would travel to where the work was. Before the tracks were laid they had to walk. This labled  them “tramps’ for they tramp tramp tramed wherever they went. They “tramped” and were hired when they got to their destination. After the trains were coming thru then they could catch a ride to the next area in which another set of tracks were to be laid. Now, are you wondering if every word I am typing is copied from history books? Well, no….it isn’t. It is just my thoughts of the day. I would like to be able to thank all the men and women that built the railways for giving all they had to keep loved ones safe. Wouldn’t you?

Till next time,

JudyLynn
